The Definition of an Independent Insurance Agent

Independent insurance agents and the agencies they work for are not restricted to where they can place an insurance risk, they have the ability to pick and choose the best coverage for you, the insured.  A “Captive” agent is more or less required to put the risk where the insurance company they work for directs them to, leaving the insured few options.

Generally, Property and Casualty insurance agents and agencies market and sell policies that protect persons and businesses from losses resulting from accidents, theft, acts of God and many other events that  may damage property of the insured or other individuals.

Independent agents and agencies are specially educated and licensed by the State of Florida to sell the products that most specifically meet the needs of their clients and are able to ensure the product is priced accordingly. They are actually sub-contractors for the carriers they represent and are independent businesspeople as well and must watch out for the best interests of the insured.
